Diesel engine exhaust spark arrestors are a basic but key safety feature for both hazardous area and lower risk diesel engine applications such as forestry or agriculture where a stray exhaust spark may cause ignition of combustible material. Virtually all legislation with regard to operating a diesel engine in a hazardous area includes a mandatory requirement to fit a properly tested and approved exhaust spark arrestor.
Chalwyn spark arrestors are of the quenching type. In this design, the glowing particles emitted from a diesel engine exhaust are repeatedly impacted against internal spark arrestor surfaces to be cooled and broken down before eventual discharge into the atmosphere.
Designed for permanent installation and manufactured in 316 grade stainless steel, the SSL range of quenching type spark arrestors are approved to the relevant provisions of the European ATEX Directive for hazardous area applications and meet the spark arresting performance specified for diesel engine exhaust spark arrestors for use in zone 1 and zone 2 hazardous areas. The SSL is a combination spark arrestor and industrial standard silencer, designed to suit engine ratings from 7.5KW (10 hp) to 373KW (500 hp). Higher ratings can be accommodated when multiple exhaust pipes are fitted. The pipe bore ranges from 1-1/4" (31.8 mm) to 6" (152.4 mm), with many of the standard sizes available from stock. Can be mounted vertically or horizontally.
This compact 316 grade stainless steel spark arrestor is designed for temporary or permanent installation at the exhaust tail pipe outlet for "end of the line" use. ATEX approved, type SSE spark arrestors have been type tested and meet the spark arresting performance specified for diesel engine exhaust spark arrestors for use in zone 1 and zone 2 hazardous areas. The SSE is suitable for engines rated between 4KW (5hp) and 11KW (150hp). The pipe bore ranges from 1-1/4" (31.8 mm) to 3-1/2" (88.9 mm), with many of the standard sizes available from stock. Can be mounted vertically or horizontally.
These models are simple, single stage carbon steel (SAS) or stainless steel (SSS) spark arrestors suitable for engines rated at 4KW (5hp) or less. Not ATEX approved for hazardous area applications. The pipe bore ranges from 3/4" (19 mm) to 1-3/8" (34.9 mm), with many of the standard sizes available from stock. Can be mounted vertically or horizontally.
