Recently our team headed over to the city of Pico Rivera in the greater Los Angeles area to assist the contractors for a pre-startup in preparing for the final startup and commissioning of the station for final approval and acceptance by the County engineers with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works.

The MurphyLink Series MLC380 Panel, engineered and built by Enovation Controls’ Industrial Panel Division, is a superior panel offering that includes the powerful, yet simple-to-configure PV380 display. This display is part of the Murphy PowerView® family and provides monitoring of Tier 4/Euro Stage 4 compliant electronic engines. The PV380 monitors multiple J1939 parameters and provides basic engine alarm/shut-down information.

The Powerview 485 is small but its rugged design offers a wide array of configurable I/O, including RS485, to support both mechanical and J1939 electronic engines.

J1939 is a set of standards defined by SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) for networking and communication in the commercial vehicle sector. They are used in heavy-duty vehicles such as trucks and buses, ships to ski lifts, mobile hydraulics, etc. The focal point of the application is the networking of the powertrain.

When applying the control voltage on the coil leads a one and a two, a magnetic field will be generated, attracting the movable lion core towards the fixed core, so the movable contacts which are fixed to the movable core, will move as well towards the fixed contacts to make a contactor and allow the power lines to run to the load. If we interrupt the control voltage, supplying the coil, the magnetic field will disappear, and the fourth spring will push the movable parts back again to their original position that will interrupt the power going to the load.

Q. What do you love most about your job and why? A. I'm only 3 months in and I've gotten to complete multiple harness designs, one of which was pretty complicated, and I've also done a lot of different types of programming. This kind of experience and independence is exceptional for an internship and is something I'm really glad to get out of my experience here.

n 2012, MTU Solutions discontinued selling the HV1000-MTUJ. This Engine Display Model was designed for instrumentation and monitoring on electronically controlled engines communicating using SAE J1939 and NMEA 2000. It was a multifunction tool that enabled marine operators to view many different engine or transmission parameters and service codes and could support up to four engines. Unfortunately, when they stopped producing it, they left Boat/Yacht owners including the US Navy with no easy replacement offering.

This Week We Talked To MurCal’s Director John Murphy, Who Has Worked Here For Nearly 62 Years And Succeeded His Parents, Who Founded The Company, When They Retired.

The Murphy PowerCore MPC-10 Controller is a general, all-purpose manual/auto start and manual/ auto throttling engine controller. This is a powerful controller that supports J1939 CAN protocols for electronically governed engines as well as I/O for mechanical engines for fault and safety shutdowns.

The term solenoid was coined in 1823 by André-Marie Ampère, a French physicist, mathematician and lay catholic who was one of the founders of the science of classical electromagnetism, which he referred to as "electrodynamics". “Solen” in Greek means channel or pipe, which is why he named it Solenoid.
