FW Murphy OPL Series High Quality Pressure Swichgages®
“FW Murphy” is the result of one man's search for reliable and high quality engine protection along with customer focus and innovative ideas. While Frank W. "Pat" Murphy (brother of MurCal’s founder Art Murphy) was a sales manager for a major equipment distributor in the 1930's, he found that his customers' main complaint was "burned up" engines, so he decided to develop a simpler yet more effective "Safety Switch." Pat's idea, later renamed the Swichgage®, was to combine an indicating gage with a switch that would stop the engine when low oil pressure or high coolant temperature existed. It was a simple design, easy to understand – and it worked well.

All About Solenoids
The term solenoid was coined in 1823 by André-Marie Ampère, a French physicist, mathematician and lay catholic who was one of the founders of the science of classical electromagnetism, which he referred to as "electrodynamics". “Solen” in Greek means channel or pipe, which is why he named it Solenoid. Ampère was an autodidact and professor at the École polytechnique and Collège de France, as well as a member of the French Academy of Sciences.
