We recently exhibited at the World AG Expo and discovered a commonality with our neighboring booth – a shared dedication to IOT connected products and serving farmers! Although it may not seem an obvious connection at first glance, we quickly recognized our mutual interest. We were particularly impressed by the Water Rat they were showcasing and before we knew it we wanted to make sure we were part of bringing this to the USA.
Who is Farmo?
Farmo is an Australian AgTech company that improves the welfare for animals and makes life better for farmers. They develop technologies to address problems on farms and have expanded to provide solutions for smart cities and urban businesses.
What is the Water Rat?
Every sensor Farmo develops comes from a need identified through their conversations with customers. Their Water Rat, an AgTech innovation that has received international recognition by winning the 2022 Australian Good Design Award, is a sophisticated but easy to set up tank and trough water sensor, designed for the Agricultural sector to monitor livestock water.
The key is simplicity. The Water Rat was established to improve efficiency and certainty for farmers by giving them knowledge directly on their smartphone of the water levels of their stock watering troughs or water tanks. This saves time as it eliminates the need to constantly check troughs, and it offers peace of mind knowing their livestock has access to water.
The Water Rat allows the user to simply drop it into a farm Stock water trough where it can float, or it can be tethered it to a tank and when the level drops, an alert is sent to the user’s phone or PC to let them know that the water levels are too low, which could be due to a damaged trough, a defective water pump or a pipe leak. The Sensor will measure and report the depth of water in your tank every 4 hours.
How it works
The Water Rat looks simple but has some smart technology inside, including an accelerometer tilt sensor to detect movement and a module to send data. When the water level reaches a low point, the Water Rat tilts over and sends an alert. When the water level rises and the Water Rat regains position, another alert is sent to let you know the water level is okay again.
The Water Rat reports 100cm (39in) when Upright and 0 when Titled Over. It is recommended to leave the Full Capacity setting at 100cm.
It’s also portable! The Water Rat is light and can be easily moved from tank to tank as livestock is moved and requires no new setup.
Through the water usage graph, pump health and issues can be identified early, reducing the risk of stock going without water.
The Water Rat makes inspecting troughs and tanks more efficient, especially in the summer, with reduced travel time and labor required.

The Shift to Non-Venting Regulators: A Game-Changer for Oil and Gas Emissions Control
In the oil and gas industry, emissions control has become a top priority as regulations tighten standards for natural gas emissions. The choice between venting and non-venting regulators is now more critical than ever, with companies seeking sustainable solutions to meet environmental standards and improve operational efficiency. The Problem with Venting Regulators Venting regulators have long been industry staples, effectively managing pressure in production equipment like separators and compressors. However, their design releases small amounts of gas during each operation, contributing to harmful natural gas emissions. As environmental concerns grow, this once-overlooked issue has come under scrutiny. The Rise of Non-Venting Regulators Beaumont Manufacturing and Distribution (BMD) offers innovative solutions to address these challenges. Their non-venting regulators, including the RG10, RG20, and RG50 models, manage pressure without releasing gas into the atmosphere. Instead, these regulators redirect gas back into the system, providing several key benefits: Compliance with EPA regulations: Non-venting regulators help companies meet the requirements of Quad O and its successors. Reduced environmental impact: By preventing natural gas release, these regulators significantly lower emissions. Improved efficiency: Capturing gas that would otherwise be lost leads to better resource utilization. Retrofitting for the Future For companies with existing infrastructure, BMD offers conversion kits that transform venting regulators into non-venting models. This allows operators to modernize their systems without the need for complete overhauls, making the transition more cost-effective and manageable. Beyond Compliance: Sustainability and Efficiency Adopting non-venting regulators isn't just about meeting regulatory requirements. It's a strategic move towards sustainability and operational efficiency. By lowering emissions, reducing waste, and retaining more product for sale, companies can position themselves for long-term success in an evolving industry. The shift to non-venting regulators represents a significant step forward in emissions control for the oil and gas sector. As the industry continues to adapt to stricter environmental standards, these innovative solutions offer a path to compliance, sustainability, and improved operational performance.
