Blink Marine is our Brand of the Month!
In the world of marine and off-road controls, Blink Marine stands in a league of its own. Known for their "Made in Italy" precision, their products are the gold standard for ruggedness, holding both IP67 and IP69K ratings—meaning they aren't just waterproof, they are high-pressure-wash-proof. What truly sets them apart is their incredible flexibility; their keypads are designed to survive the harshest saltwater environments while offering a level of RGB customization and interchangeable iconography that makes every dashboard feel like a masterpiece.
Cracking the Code: What Do the Names Mean?
At first glance, names like KP-1200-LI or PKP-2400-SI might look like a jumble of letters and numbers. But there is actually a very simple system behind it. Once you know the "secret," picking the right keypad is easy!
The Letters at the Start (PKP or KP):
PKP stands for PowerKey Pro. These are the most popular models because they have "removable inserts." This means you can pop out the little icons on the buttons and swap them for new ones anytime.
KP is often used interchangeably in shorthand but specifically points toward the Keypad family.
The Numbers in the Middle (e.g., 1200, 2400, 2600):
The first digit usually indicates the physical layout or "orientation." For example, the "1" in 1200 often signifies a single-row layout. A "2" would be two rows and so on.
The second digit tells you exactly how many buttons are on the unit per row.
In the PKP-1200, the "2" means there are 2-keys per row.
In a PKP-2400, the "4" means there are 4 keys per row.
The Letters at the End (LI or SI):
This tells you how big the buttons are.
LI (Large Inserts): These have big, 24mm buttons. They are great if you are wearing heavy gloves or if you’re on a bumpy boat and need a bigger target for your finger. This is especially useful in high-speed marine conditions.
SI (Small Inserts): These have smaller, 15mm buttons. They are perfect if you have a small dashboard and need to fit a lot of controls into a tight space.
Special Designations (FR): You may also see FR, which stands for Full Rubber. Unlike the standard Pro series, these icons are laser-etched directly onto a solid rubber face for high-volume applications where interchangeable inserts aren't required.
Real-Life Examples
PKP-1200-LI: A slim, 2-button keypad (1x2 layout) with large, easy-to-press buttons.
PKP-2200-LI: A 4-button keypad (2x2 layout) with Large 24mm Inserts.
PKP-2400-SI: An 8-button keypad (2x4) with smaller buttons to save space.
PKP-2600-SI: A big 12-button keypad (2x6 layout).
PKP-3500-SI: A big 15-button keypad (3x5 layout) for when you need to control everything from lights to pumps in one spot with Small 15mm Inserts.
