Professional Journey

1. Can you tell us about your career journey and how you came to work here?

I’ve been passionate about technology since I first jumped into the computer industry back in 1992, and I’ve loved expanding my skills in graphic design, social media, and eCommerce along the way. After my son passed away, I was inspired to find a role where I could channel all that experience into something meaningful—and that’s what led me here, doing what I love every day. 

2. What do you enjoy most about your role?

I love the flexibility to set my own pace and tackle a fresh to-do list each day—no two days are ever the same! Plus, working alongside such a fantastic team makes every day even more enjoyable.

3. What has been your proudest achievement at work so far?

Being recognized by my peers is achievement enough, but I was also proud to be able to write an article for MurCal for a magazine a couple of years back. Putting my writing skills to use in an industry article weekly is something I am proud of as well.

4. What challenges have you faced, and how did you overcome them?

Since my role was brand new to the company, I had to dive in and learn everything from the ground up—with no one to turn to for answers! Whenever I spotted something that could be improved, I’d research solutions and make it happen. Even after three years, I’m still on the lookout for new ways to make things better.

5. How do you stay motivated and productive in your role?

I truly love what I do and bring a self-motivated attitude to every task. No matter what the job is, I’m committed to giving it my all and delivering my very best every day.

Workplace Contributions

1. What do you think sets you apart as an employee?

I’m reliable and loyal, always on the lookout for ways to support my teammates and help the company succeed. I make it a point to bring a positive attitude—and a smile—to work every day, ready to pitch in wherever I’m needed.

2. How do you approach teamwork and collaboration with colleagues?

I know I don’t have all the answers, so I’m always eager to ask questions and brainstorm solutions together. I really value my teammates’ opinions and look for every opportunity to collaborate and make our work even better.

3. Can you share a project or task that you’re especially proud of contributing to?

While not technically in my job description, 6 months after I started I remember the Warehouse manager asking for my help in making magnets to identify locations for the products in our warehouse—a big project since we have thousands of items! It turned into an ongoing, rewarding challenge, and I’m proud to have played a part in keeping our warehouse running smoothly.

4. How do you think your work impacts the company’s success?

I have a very visible role as I run all our social media profiles, handle all the marketing, and manage our eCommerce platforms. I am very well aware that every little thing I do needs to be as professional and as polished as possible, since my work directly shapes how our brand is perceived. Whether I’m crafting engaging content, launching new products, or responding to customers, I strive to ensure every detail reflects our commitment to quality and excellence. 

5. What advice would you give to others aiming for Employee of the Month?

Staying positive and lighthearted not only helps you navigate tough moments, but also inspires those around you to approach each day with resilience and optimism.

Personal Insights

1. What’s a fun fact about yourself that most of your coworkers might not know? 

I wrote a few books, as I was compelled to share my story as a special needs mom and share the life of my son who was born with a rare condition called Epidermolysis Bullosa. I am also a voracious reader… when I have time!

2. What are your hobbies or interests outside of work?

I love traveling and I have a lot of places on my bucket list to go to! I am an avid genealogist and I love photography, both taking photos and working on old ones. 

3. Do you have a favorite quote or mantra that inspires you?

The Golden Rule is still my best inspiration.

4. If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?

I wish I could just “beam” myself to places like they do in Star Trek! While I actually enjoy a good road trip, those marathon 11-13 hour flights 24 hour journeys to visit my family in Europe are a bit much for me these days. 

5. What’s one thing on your bucket list that you’re excited to accomplish?

Just more traveling! One place on my bucket list I would need a week to explore is Paris-so much to see! Versailles, the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower…. I would also like to do the Camino de Santiago at some point.

Future Aspirations

1. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years professionally?

I’m eager to keep growing and taking on new challenges here at MurCal for years to come. I look forward to expanding my skills, contributing to the team’s success, and making a positive impact as I continue my journey with the company.

2. Are there any skills or areas of expertise you’re currently working on developing?

Graphic Design is ever changing and there is so much to learn! I am always watching tutorials.

3. How has this recognition motivated or inspired you moving forward?

I will keep doing what I am doing and find ways to encourage those around me through my positive attitude and actions.

4. What’s one goal you’d love to achieve at this company?

One goal I’d love to achieve at this company is to take on new challenges that help me grow both professionally and personally, while making a meaningful contribution to our team’s success. I’m excited to develop my skills further and help drive the company toward its long-term goals.

Team and Culture

1. What do you enjoy most about working with your team or at this company?

What I appreciate most is the sense of freedom in my role—just a focus on staying dedicated and getting the job done well. It’s rewarding to know that my efforts are trusted and genuinely valued, which keeps me motivated to consistently deliver my best work

2. How would you describe the company culture in one sentence?

Supportive and empowering, encouraging everyone to stay motivated, collaborate, and deliver their best work together.

3. Who has inspired or mentored you the most during your time here, and why?

The two people that taught me and supported me the most are no longer with the company, but I do enjoy working with and for Jim per se, as he’s always very supportive.
